How To Properly Attach Your IFY Chain
Regular Cleaning
To keep your bag looking its best, dust it regularly with a soft, dry cloth or brush. Avoid using excessive moisture or harsh scrubbing.
Regular Conditioning
Leather needs to be conditioned every 3 to 6 months to stay supple. The frequency depends on how often you use your bag and the climate you live in. If you use your bag frequently, you may need to condition it more often.
Daily Care
- Dust: Wipe the entire bag with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Use a soft brush to clean dust from crevices and details.
- Condition: Apply a small amount of lanolin or leather conditioner to a clean, soft cloth. Gently wipe the bag’s surface until it’s evenly coated and has a slight sheen.
- Dry: Allow the bag to air dry completely. This allows the conditioner to penetrate the leather. Avoid touching the bag while it’s drying to prevent fingerprints. You can gently buff away any excess conditioner with a clean cloth.
- Store: When not in use, store your bag in its dust bag.
Protecting Your Bag
- Water Resistance: The leather has some water resistance, but the interior is not waterproof. If your bag gets wet, blot it dry with a soft towel and let it air dry in a well-ventilated area. If needed, use a hairdryer on a cool, low setting, followed by a leather conditioner.
- Sunlight and Chemicals: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent fading and drying. Keep your bag away from perfumes, cosmetics, and harsh chemicals.
Stain Removal
- For minor stains, wipe the area immediately with a clean, soft cloth to prevent the stain from setting. After the area dries, apply a leather conditioner.
- For stubborn stains, use a specialized leather cleaner. Always test the cleaner in an inconspicuous area first.
- For serious stains, consider taking your bag to a professional leather cleaner.
Caring for the Lining
- Protection: Avoid placing sharp objects inside the bag to prevent scratches. Keep liquids and sticky substances away from the lining.
- Cleaning: Empty the bag and use a hairdryer on a low setting to remove dust and debris. Gently brush the lining with a soft brush, working in one direction.
Caring for Brass Hardware
The hardware has a protective coating to prevent oxidation. To clean, simply wipe it with a soft cloth. Over time, this coating may wear off. You can then use a brass polish or bronze oil to maintain the shine.
- Regular Care: Wipe the hardware with a soft cloth and apply bronze oil as needed.
- Deep Cleaning: For a deeper clean, use a brass cleaner or a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda to remove oxidation and dirt. Rinse with water, dry thoroughly, and polish.
