We had the pleasure of having a conversation with Kadie, a remarkable woman whose journey as a business owner and a new mom is nothing short of beautiful.

Over the course of the chat, Kadie opened up about her experience running a catering business while navigating the exciting but demanding role of being a first-time mom. She describes herself as an “ambitious, loving and driven” woman, who works towards her set goals by believing in herself, and embracing the support of her community.

Kadie took a bold step last year by starting a catering business. She took a break due to being a new mom, and in her words, her baby motivates her towards her business. Her catering business got back in full swing this year, and she let us in on the journey so far;

Conversation With Kadie

ALOMAA: How has the business grown? How is it going?

Kadie: …just like any business, the beginning is a little rough… I’m learning as I’m going ‘cause this is my first business. I would say so far it is going well.

ALOMAA: Were there moments in this business where you doubted yourself?

Kadie: …most definitely! …I would say, everyday.

Do you find yourself comparing abilities to others, and questioning how good you are at what you do? You are not alone. By reminding herself of her uniqueness that sets her apart from those in her line of work, Kadie sees no reason to doubt herself.

Kadie: …at the end of the day, I talk to myself. …I am my own person, I am my own business. My flavor, my profiles are completely different and that’s what makes me unique…

ALOMAA: So you would say that you’re your biggest motivation?

Kadie: …most definitely! I think you should be your biggest fan. If you’re not your number one fan, who’s gonna be your number one fan?

Every woman deserves a community that nurtures and supports her dreams. Like us, Kadie strongly believes in community and credits her fiancé and siblings for their contribution to her success.

She had this to say about her older sister, who is like a second mom to her;

“…every step of the way she’s there encouraging me, she’s there supporting me. If I’m lacking, she’s there to pick up wherever I’m lacking in.”

This year has been quite the “adventure” for Kadie as she describes it. She welcomed a new baby, got engaged, got back to business, and even worked with kids with autism.

Kadie: …everything that happened this year motivated me more towards my business… I’m more driven and motivated to do bigger and better things now.

Of course, in every journey there are external factors that try to throw us off course. Kadie deals with this by staying focused and keeping her attention on what matters.

Kadie: …once you take your attention off your goals and start looking at that negativity that’s when you’re really hindering yourself… I’m not so bothered by all that.

True to her ambitious nature, Kadie is already setting goals for the coming year!  She plans to expand her business by setting up a food truck, and showing up as a vendor for food festivals and events. She is currently taking the necessary steps to achieve this by getting her licenses and saving up.

Kadie’s advice to the world is to enjoy life and smile through the journey. She enjoys herself by traveling when she can, and getting an occasional treat to reward herself.
